Keep on walking up to the end of Almond Road, turn left under the railway arches, and you should be able to locate Partizan just by the noise you can hear to your right. It's hard to believe that just a couple of years ago, Partizan were squished into the tiny arch that's now occupied by Spartan, with just a few benches outside where people could drink. Now they're in new premises that roughly back onto their old ones, and they've got huge amounts of space to play with.
The first thing you'll notice is the huge yard area outside, and when the weather's nice that's inevitably full of people making the most of the sun and the booze. But there's also plenty of seating inside for when it gets colder (it may look like the place is closed on cold evenings, but look out for the small door to the right of the arch). Inside, you also get a busy bar serving from half a dozen or so taps, a pretty large brewhouse just behind them, and some pizzas to nibble on if the munchies have caught up with you again. Really, it's the same experience you get at Spartan, just scaled up one hell of a lot, and happily without any apparent compromise.
At least, the above was the case back in February of 2022. Sadly, rental costs being what they are in Bermondsey, within a year of that Partizan’s boss Andy Smith had to come up with a way of keeping the brewery afloat, and his solution was to move the operation out to Market Harborough. There’s an interview with him here that goes into a lot of detail about the lengths he had to go to to survive, including selling his brewkit to new partners Langton Brewing to stop his landlord repossessing it. It’s good that Partizan are still going, but the loss of their Bermondsey taproom is a real shame.
How has Partizan's move to a larger space affected their brewing?
